Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 21, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Habitmatch ("we," "us," the "app") collects, how we use it, and who we share it with. By using Habitmatch you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
- Account information: your email address and the profile details you choose to provide (display name, profile photo, focus areas, and matching preferences).
- Your activity data: the habits, to-dos, numeric goals, and screen-time goals you create; completion status, scores, streaks, and verification notes; and challenge participation.
- Mood check-ins: the optional daily mood value you record. Mood history is private to your account and is not shown to accountability partners.
- Messages: messages you exchange with accountability partners and with the in-app AI buddy.
- Device and technical data: a push-notification token and basic device identifiers needed to deliver notifications and operate the app.
- Subscription information: if you buy a Habitmatch subscription, we store the Apple transaction identifiers, which subscription you bought, and its status and renewal dates. We never see or store your payment-card details — Apple handles the payment.
- Product analytics: a small number of in-app events, such as viewing the subscription screen and whether a purchase completed, recorded against your account so we can tell whether these features work.
Screen Time data is processed on your device using Apple's Family Controls / Device Activity frameworks. The app stores the goals and completion status you set; Apple does not share your raw underlying app-usage details with us.
Apple Health data
If you choose Apple Health as the source for a numeric habit, Habitmatch requests read-only access to the specific categories needed for that habit, currently steps, walking and running distance, or sleep. Using Apple Health is optional, and you can manage access in the Health app or device Settings.
Raw measurements read from Apple Health stay on your device. Habitmatch stores the numeric habit's configuration and whether its goal was met so your accountability record can sync across devices. Values you enter manually and explicit corrections you make may also sync because they are your direct entries and cannot be reconstructed from Apple Health. Raw Apple Health measurements and private mood check-ins are not shared with accountability partners, OpenAI, or advertisers.
How we use your information
- To provide the core app: tracking habits, scoring, streaks, reports, and verification.
- To match you with accountability partners and let you and your partners see each other's progress.
- To send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset) and push notifications.
- To power the optional AI accountability buddy.
- To maintain security and prevent abuse.
How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data with the following service providers only as needed to operate the app:
- Supabase — our backend, authentication, database, and storage provider. Your account and activity data are stored here.
- OpenAI — powers the optional AI accountability buddy. When you use it, the text of your messages in that conversation is sent to OpenAI, along with context such as your habit names, completion status, scores, and streaks. To keep the conversation coherent over time, the buddy also records short notes about things you tell it; these are stored on our servers, sent back to OpenAI as context in later replies, and deleted when you delete your account. OpenAI does not use API inputs to train its models by default.
- Firebase (Google) — used for push-notification delivery (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and abuse prevention (Firebase App Check). Because a push notification shows you a preview, the start of the message or report it refers to is sent to Google as part of delivering it, along with your device's push token. We do not use Firebase for advertising.
- Apple — processes subscription payments. When you subscribe, your Habitmatch account identifier is sent to Apple with the purchase so the subscription can be tied to your account and restored on a new device, and Apple sends us the resulting transaction details and later changes such as renewal or cancellation. Apple handles the payment itself; we never receive your card details.
- Resend — delivers transactional email on our behalf (such as sign-in and account emails), and delivers moderation alerts to our support address. A moderation alert includes the text of the reported message so we can act on the report.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the service.
Information visible to other users
Habitmatch is built around accountability partners. When you are matched with a partner, your profile and your shared progress are visible to that partner. That includes the names and descriptions of the habits, to-dos, and screen-time goals in a shared report, the text of any notes you attach to a report, and your completion status, scores, and streaks. Messages you send are visible to their recipient. Be mindful of what you include in your item names, notes, profile, and messages.
Report-sharing settings control what is shown to a partner in the app: you can set a conversation to share daily reports plus summaries, or summaries only. These are display preferences rather than access controls — a report your app has already shared with a partner remains available to their account. Treat anything you put in an item name or note as visible to partners you share reports with.
Our access to your data
Habitmatch is operated by a small team. To run and support the service, authorized operators are technically able to access data stored in our backend, including profiles, activity data, and messages. We access this data only when there is a legitimate operational reason, such as:
- responding to a support request you send us;
- investigating a report, a suspected violation of our Terms, or abuse of the service;
- diagnosing and fixing a technical problem; or
- complying with a legal obligation or a valid law-enforcement request.
We do not browse private messages or activity data for any other purpose, and we do not sell or share it for advertising.
Reporting and moderation
You can block another user or report a user or message from within the app. When you submit a report, the reported content and the context needed to review it are made available to us so we can take appropriate action, which may include removing content or restricting an account.
Data retention and deletion
We retain your information for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account in the app. This removes your profile, your habits, to-dos and screen-time goals, your reports and notes, your mood check-ins, your messages, your profile photo, and what the AI buddy had remembered about you.
Two things do not disappear with your account, and we would rather say so plainly:
- Subscription records. If you ever subscribed, we keep the Apple transaction identifiers and the subscription's status and dates, with your account identifier removed from them. We keep these to reconcile payments, handle refunds and chargebacks, and meet tax and accounting obligations. They no longer identify you to us, and Apple keeps its own record of the transaction regardless.
- Reports others filed about you. If another user reported one of your messages, that report and its contents remain available to us for safety and moderation purposes. Reports you filed about other people are deleted with your account.
If you need help deleting your account, email support@habitmatch.app.
Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children's privacy
Habitmatch requires you to be at least 18 years old. The app asks for your date of birth during sign-up and does not accept a date that would make you younger than 18. Habitmatch is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
